Spearmint oil Introduction and Origin
Spearmint oil is obtained from the bright green Mentha spicata herb and its name is derived from the fact that it has, pointed spear- shaped leaves. The spearmint also known as common mint, garden mint and mentha spicata. Spearmint is a perennial herbaceous plant. The name spear mint derived from the pointed leaf tips. It has light green oval shaped leaves and pink colored flower. Spearmint plant grows well on slightly sandy and wet soil. It grows well in temperate climate. It is very common household plant and grows well in pots.

Spearmint oil is extracted by the mode of steam distillation from flowering tops.
Properties of Spearmint Essential Oil
Spearmint oil is pale yellow or greenish yellow in color The oil has an aromatic order and volatile in nature. Density of oil is 0.917-0.952 and having watery viscosity.
The spearmint oil contains carvone, d-limonene and dihydrocarvone as major constituents.
Uses of Natural Spearmint oil
Spearmint oil possesses antispasmodic and carminative and insecticide, anti-septic stimulant and restorative properties. It has a same aroma of peppermint oil. It has low content of menthol in comparison to peppermint oil.
